“Restorative Technologies and Materials for Contemporary Implant Dentistry”

Digital technology affects every aspect of our daily lives. The resulting impact on the improvement in Implant Restorative Dentistry is tremendous. Over the past 10 years, we have seen significant improvements in communication and fabrication technologies.

Upon successful completion of this course the participants should be able to:

-Recognize the benefits of real-time 2 way communication between the laboratory and dentist utilizing 

 Digital Photography and the internet.

-Understand the various currently available Diagnos­tic and Digital Imaging technologies

-Understand the differences between indirect CAD/ CAM developed Zirconia / Alumina substrate 

 technologies (Cercon, Procera, Lava, Cerec in Lab, Zeno)

-Discuss the different 3D printing and laser sintered fabrication options.

-Utilize conservative application criteria for metal supported, Zirconia supported, pressed ceramic systems.

-Distinguish among the different types of CAD/CAM fabricated implant abutments for fixed Prosthodontics

-Recognize the different types of CAD/CAM and rapid prototype fabricated titanium implant overdenture bars

 

David R. Avery CDT, Director of Professional Services at Drake Precision Dental Laboratory in Charlotte , N.C. received his AAS degree in dental laboratory technology from Durham Technical College in Durham , North Carolina in 1976. He achieved his Certified Dental Technician status in 1980. During his career, he has served as a private technician, full service laboratory owner and since 1984, a member of the Drake executive management team. 

He actively teaches undergraduate and post-graduate dental students at the University of North Carolina , Medical University of South Carolina, Medical College of Georgia, Virginia Commonwealth University and Tufts University dental schools. He is also a visiting lecturer at the GPR and Oral Medicine programs at Carolina ’s Medical Center , Wake Forest University , University of Virginia Hospital, University of Florida , and the McGuire Veterans Administration Hospital in Richmond , Va. , as well as numerous residency programs within the Armed Forces. 

 

He has published in numerous laboratory and clinical journals and has presented more than 600 scientific programs for local, regional and national professional clinical and laboratory organizations covering every aspect of Dental Laboratory Technology and Communication.

   He is an active member of the Dental Technician Alliance of The American College of Prosthodontists. He currently serves on the Summit for Dental Laboratory Technology and The Foundation for Dental Laboratory Technology Boards. He also serves on the editorial boards of “Compendium of Dental Education”, “The Journal of Dental Technology”, “Inside Dental Technology Magazine”, as Special section Editor for “Inside Dental Assisting magazine” and as Dental Laboratory Technology Editor for the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry.
